The teaching and research of Pre-Qin dynasty Archaeology at JLU dates back to the early 1960s. The faculty consists of 8 professors, 3 associate professors, and 3 lecturers. Main research areas include Paleolithic Archaeology, Neolithic Archaeology, Archaeology of Xia, Shang and Zhou Dynasties, and Northeast Archaeology before Han Dynasties.

The faculty has distinctive research characteristics and prominent advantages in fields of pre-Qin dynasty archaeology in the Northern frontier areas of China. The teaching and research group has undertaken more than 20 various major projects, achieving outstanding academic outcomes both domestically and internationally.

The faculty teaches many courses to undergraduates, master, doctoral and international students, such as General Archeology, Archeological Methodology, Paleolithic Archeology, Neolithic Archeology, Xia-Shang-Zhou Dynasties’ Archaeology, Archaeology of Northeastern China before Han dynasty, Field Archaeology, etc. With a pragmatic academic tradition and an open academic atmosphere, the faculty has cultivated a large number of outstanding professionals at home and abroad. It has contributed great progress for the development of Chinese pre-Qin archaeological research.
