The Lithic Analysis Laboratory was established in 2003. Its predecessor was the Paleolithic Laboratory of the Frontier Archaeology Research Center of Jilin University. The laboratory has more than 25,000 stone specimens and dozens of experimental teaching equipment.
The laboratory currently has three functions of lithic identification, lithic simulation production, and lithic micro-trace analysis teaching. It can not only undertake the experimental teaching of the basic course "Paleolithic Archaeology" for undergraduates, and the experimental teaching of the course "Paleolithic Archaeology", but also provide support for undergraduate independent innovation project research, postgraduate professional training and education, and teachers' scientific research.
The two teachers, Chen Quanjia and Fang Qi, as the heads of the laboratory, are currently responsible for the research a number of important projects, and self-editing multiple textbooks for experimental teaching.
The laboratory maintains an active exchange of personnel visits with relevant scientific research institutions in Russia, Japan, South Korea, Australia and other countries, and has held and participated in many international academic conferences. The laboratory also keep close cooperation with Peking University, the Institute of Vertebrate Paleontology and Paleoanthropology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the Institute of Archaeology of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, and cultural relics and archaeology institutes of various provinces and cities to carry out academic exchanges and joint training.
Based on the research of Northeast China and facing East Asia, our laboratory has established a unique Northeast Asian lithic research system. The laboratory aims to become a domestic first-class and internationally advanced characteristic laboratory.
