On December 20th, the School of Archaeology of Jilin University held a 2020 undergraduate practical teaching work report in the International Academic Lecture Hall of the Central Campus Library. More than 200 teachers and students gathered together to listen to the reports on the practical teaching work and internship experience from the representatives of teachers and students.The meeting was chaired by Zhao Binfu, Dean of the School of Archaeology.
Professor Duan Tianjing and Associate Professor Fang Qi of the School of Archaeology reported on the construction of field archeology practice teaching base in Xia County of Jilin University and students’ fieled archaeology practice in 2020.
The Shanxi Xia County Archaeology Practice Teaching Base of Jilin University, officially launched in 2020, is currently the largest and best field archaeology practice teaching base among Chinese universities.The base is equipped with complete living facilities, scientific and modern working environment, and reasonably functional divisive. At the same time, the establishment of a field archaeological sub-center at the site is conducive to the protection of cultural relics, scientific research, and practical teaching. The base formulates and strictly implements the management norms, assessment system, rest and training system, disciplinary regulations, etc..In terms of software construction, it makes full use of modern scientific and technological means to maximize the extraction of archaeological information, and conduct scientific, objective and accurate recording and research work.
In the field archeology intership, the students received systematic and all-round field archaeology training, practiced solid field archaeology operation skills, and learned the basic knowledge of field archaeology.
Zhang Zheng and Li Yali respectively reported on the practical teaching work of museology in 2020. Eighteen undergraduates of class 2018 majoring in cultural relics and museology carried out a 3-month museum internship at Liangzhu Museum, Liangzhu Ancient City Ruins Park, and China Port Museum to gain in-depth understanding of museum operation and management, improve practical ability, and deepen professional knowledge understanding.
Li Hongwei put forward new requirements for the practical teaching of the two majors in his speech. More young teachers should be involved in the field archaeological practical teaching to ensure that the Xia County Archaeological Base can not only train students but also produce more archaeological achievements.Museum internships should strengthen communication and cooperation with the museum, strive for more practical opportunities for students, give full play to students' potential, and highlight professional characteristics and advantages.
In concluding speech, Zhao Binfu sent a message to the students to treat the archaeological practice site as a laboratory, a large classroom, a big family, and an exercise field. Students should be rigorous and meticulous in their work; be proactive in learning, use both hands and brain; help each other in life, and have fun in hardship. The teachers and students have clear goals and fulfill their responsibilities, and strive to make great contributions to the construction of "archaeology with Chinese characteristics, Chinese style, and Chinese manner".
