Li Yuanyuan, academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and president of Jilin University, said that he will steadily run the School of Archaeology of Jilin University and strive to build a world-class archeology discipline system with "Chinese characteristics, Chinese style, and Chinese manner".
The teaching and research activities of the archaeological subject of Jilin University began in the mid-1950s. In 1972, Zhang Zhongpei, a famous Chinese archaeologist and former dean of the Palace Museum, founded the archaeology major of Jilin University. Promoted by several generations of archaeologists, the archaeological discipline of Jilin University now occupies a pivotal position in the Chinese archaeological circle.
"Since the 1970s, archaeologists from Jilin University have carried out work in the vast areas of Northeast, North China, and Northwest China, which has effectively promoted the research on the process of civilization in the North."According to Guan Qiang, deputy director of the State Administration of Cultural Heritage of China, they are also cooperating with scientific research institutions in many countries and regions. The research area covers Northeast Asia, East Asia, as far as West Asia and Europe. They are examining and constructing the Chinese archaeological system at the highest latitude.
Zhao Binfu, dean of the School of Archaeology of Jilin University, said that on the basis of the original discipline construction, in the future, the institute will make great efforts in Chinese archaeological research, foreign archaeological research, scientific and technological archaeological research, and Paleography research.
